I’m currently running a survey over at SurveyMonkey to gather results of what timelines, shows, movies, captains, etc. are preferred by the vast majorities of Trek fans in the world.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
This is mostly for my own interest and nothing else. I’ve advertised it everywhere else, so I’d thought I’d advertise it here as well.

I recently started re-watching EVERY series in order, but had started as a TNG kid back in the day.
I’m on season 2 of TNG and let me tell you, adult me has a LOT of differing opinions about it than kid me. Once I get to DS9, I’m hoping teenage me will agree with adult me.

Why are Voyager, Defiant and TOS Enterprise fighting the “D”?? That makes no sense! Friends shouldn’t fight among themselves. It’s a big happy galaxy.

Must be some good D if they’re all fighting over it.

I maintain that VOY: Year of Hell is peak Trek.

It’s an advertisement from Star Trek: Timelines, a really addicting mobile game where you command a starship and fight different characters from different timelines, good and bad. It’s fun but harbors a lot on microtransactions.
In reality, they were just trying to have an intervention about Jean-Luc’s Earl Grey addiction.

I started watching TNG about two years ago and just got to S4 because of how slow and painful most of S1 and S2 is. The Star Trek: The Next Conversation podcast has helped me get through it very easily.

I completed it, but my results are somewhat skewed because I haven’t seen Discovery due to the streaming model.
I basically put anything Discovery related in last place.

There are some classic episodes, but just like any series it seems to take a while to hit its stride.
I’m refraining from skewing the survey though, I haven’t seen Discovery yet nor the last two TOS movies, or Beyond.

I agree, I just finished The Best of Both Worlds the other day and that’s probably some of the best Trek I’ve ever seen.
I recommend Discovery, like TNG it takes a while to hit its good stuff but it’s been pretty solid since. I also recommend Beyond and The Undiscovered Country.

I’m kind of in an in-between spot. I was a kid in the ‘80s and the first Trek I saw was TMP and The Wrath of Khan. After that I just couldn’t get interested in the original series no matter how hard I tried, it was just too cheesy in comparison. TNG had several good seasons, but I pretty much lost interest in the whole thing after that.

While VOY and ENT are (IMHO) not as bad as some claim, DS9 is best Trek.

I did enjoy Quark’s bar that was in Vegas, if that counts.. I rode those ST rides so many times! I miss my ST duffel bag I bought what must have been 20 years ago. It was lost and I have never found it. The middle section unzipped to reveal the Starfleet Academy logo. *sigh* I can’t find it for sale on eBay or even a google image of it to show you (been looking for years to find it).

Oh I plan to watch them all. I’m just planning on doing it in sequence. I went as far as to look up release dates of the old movies to make sure I watch them in conjunction with TNG.
It may take a while, but eventually I’ll get to Discovery.

Cant take the survey because I haven’t seen enough to give them all a ranking. I can say though that I grew up watching Enterprise with my dad. That was the only series that I ever watched, and therefore the only one that I ever liked. We didn’t get the channel that played Star Trek, so Dad would have one of his friends record it every week and he’d bring it home and we’d watch it, on VHS.
I haven’t seen any of the older movies, but I’m a fan of the new ones and rank them as such. Star Trek: Beyond, Star Trek (2009), Star Trek: Into Darkness

The Best Of Both Worlds is actually the only good TNG movie that was made.

For mobile games, I actually enjoyed Pixel Trek a lot, even with its cruder graphics and rather simple gameplay. I prefer it over to Timelines, I think.

Having seen all of them, I still don’t get the hate for Enterprise or the lack of awareness of DS9. Honestly, DS9 is the one I’ll probably rewatch.

Done. Though I would have preferred an explicit option not to answer or give data. I have not seen the new CBS show that they thought was a great idea to lock behind their insipid streaming app. So I ranked it last, but had I known I could have simply not answered for those points I would have left them blank.
Same for the ships. I am not enough of a super-fan to know the call-signs to determine which series/movies the ship is related to.

Good luck with DS9. I’m watching it now, and it’s kind of a chore to get through. I think mainly because I just don’t like Sisko as a captain. I haven’t watched TOS in forever, and I’d probably like to keep it that way. It was campy as hell sometimes.

Enterprise was the best series, with TNG being second.
DS9, I just couldn’t get in to. I’m even watching that again, and aside from Quark (who’s definitely the highlight of the show), I can’t find too much to like.

I liked Sisko. He was more human and had more faults than Mr Clean Picard.
TOS was bad, the TAS was badder. I’m glad it was only a handful of short episodes.

Taking this survey was the highlight of my day, thank you.
Any day I can champion Wrath of Khan and/or DS9 while dunking on the Kelvin timeline is a good day. Also, any day I can remember how wonderful Kirstie Alley was as Saavik is a good day.

I would say that Best of Both Worlds is actually the official moment that TNG hits it’s stride. All of seasons 1 and 2, and much of season 3 is very hit or miss...with far, far more misses than hits. Then BoBW hits, and then Picard and company pretty much nail it from then on. Whiffs like Sub Rosa, Second Chances, and Genesis are outliers rather than the norm.

Everything that everyone loves about modern television...long running serial stories, deep character conflict and slow resolution, events in early episodes that lead to consequences in later episodes...that’s ALL DS9. DS9 was doing this stuff before Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Wire, etc...
Granted, it was much SLOWER at world-building than modern serialized TV, having it’s origins in Trek (which, to that point, thrived on adventure-of-the-week writing), but once you really start digging into the Dominion threat? Absolutely amazing television.

I cannot stand Enterprise, by far the worst star trek series. The time travel nonsense ruined the show and if it couldn’t get any worse you had weird episodes where Archer is condemning an entire species to death that has made contact and it’s considered the moral thing to do. Horrific series.
I hated discovery at first but kept watching it and now I think it’s probably one of the best series.

that’s ALL DS9.
I’ve been saying this for years. It was so captivating and exciting at the time.
Only downside of that kind of serialized TV is that random rewatching is difficult.
